I think I'm a 3A, but I'm not sure. It's fine, is more curly short than long, tends to frizz in humidity. I've been straightening it for years so the curls are looser than they will be.
Here's a current pic:

And here's an old pic from the last time I'd been wearing it curly for a while so you can see how curly it gets. (I've got TONS of crunchy product in that old pic, or it would be really frizzy.)

Whatcha think? 3A? Or maybe one of the 2s?

It looks like a 2c right now but I'm sure once your hair gets healthier it will go back to 3 status.

I didn't realize 3A is considered more healthy than 2 b/c. I thought you were just born with one type or another (or a combination, of course), and figuring out which type helped you know which styling/care recommendations to know might be right for you.
My stylist commented two weeks ago on how healthy my hair is. Straightening it always keeps it soft and shiny - it's just a PITA trying to keep it straight on humid days.
It's so tricky trying to say whether hair is healthy. I've noticed the more I condition mine, the looser the curl gets, which confuses me - does that mean my hair is naturally a looser curl, or does that mean I'm overconditioning?
(I guess the reason it's hard to tell if hair is healthy is that it's dead either way, right? LOL)

3 hair is not healthier than 2 hair. It's just as hair gets healthier, it usually gets curlier. Curly hair needs a lot of moisture and most people don't give it enough moisture. When you treat your hair better, ie CG, it has a tendency to get curlier. If your hair is really healthy and moist, it is probably at it's curl potential and won't get curlier. Your old picture is a 3a, but the new picture is a 2c--therefore, the comment that your hair would get curlier as it got healthier.

Okay, I see what you're saying. And now I think I see where I've been confused all these years: I thought frizz meant unhealthy hair. And I've always had frizz with the 3a-looking curls. But if frizz is just an issue of using the wrong products and methods, then except for the time I had split ends in high school, my hair has always been pretty healthy, curly or not.
But I think I can get it a lot more healthy with the CG method.
Thanks for the assist, ladies! I'm so happy to have found this forum! I've got the CG book on order, and now I think I need to order some sample packs from Jessicurl and CHS.
